D.Allen Fall Semester Outlook

My name is D'Vonte Allen. I'm from Marion, South Carolina. Currently a senior here at SC State, majoring in journalism communication. I have three siblings, a brother, and two sisters. My hobbies are reading, writing, and playing video games.

MOTIVATION: The difference between those who succeed and failed: not taking advantage of opportunities.

- Eric Thomas

One thing I always tell myself... "Know your why, understand your why, be HUMBLE, and have FAITH"!

Omega Psi Phi has been instrumental in shaping me into a better man one who understands the value of service, scholarship, and brotherhood. Through mentorship and community work, I've grown in leadership and character. Most importantly, the relationships I’ve built through Omega have become a support system that continues to push me toward excellence. This past spring of 2025 I became a new member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. One of my best decisions I made in life. Omega Psi Phi can benefit you in many ways. Depending on your personal goals, values, and commitment. Here are some ways it benefits me.

1. Brotherhood and Lifelong Relationships: Deep, lifelong bonds with like-minded individuals who share similar values of manhood, scholarship, perseverance, and uplift. A powerful network of brothers who support each other personally and professionally.

2. Leadership Development: Opportunities to lead at chapter, regional, and national levels. Learn organizational management, conflict resolution, and public speaking.

3. Professional Networking: Access to an influential and accomplished network of Omega men in various fields. Such as business, medicine, law, education, military, entertainment, and more. Omega Psi Phi also support with mentorship, job referrals, and career development.

4. Community Service: Engaging in meaningful service projects through nationally mandated programs. For example, voter registration, scholarship programs, and mentoring.

5. Cultural and Historical Significance: Be a part of a legacy that includes civil rights leaders, artists, athletes, and servicemen. Contribute to the continued legacy of the first international fraternity organization founded at a historically Black college (Howard University, 1911).

Football will always be a part of my life. I started playing football around the age of six. Started playing for the recreation center. I was the smallest guy of the team. My first year I wore number 25, and I honestly didn't play much. I had a couple of teammates that were better than me at the time.

The picture above was my second year playing. I started to make a name for myself. Working hard and putting in extra work extra hours to separate myself from the next man. I learn a lot of valuable lessons by playing football. For example, growing up playing football and my dad always told me that "whatever you put in, is what you get out"

My future plans are to one day published a book with all of my personal poems and motivational. To encourage the world. I truly believed everyone have their own story to tell; I'm just sharing mines and hoping it motivate some-one to do better in life.

Nevertheless, you never know what people are really going through in their life. Some of us have a very hard time explaining and just speaking out their true feelings. I was once there in my life, but I'm slower coming out of that slope. Everyone is not going to understand you, but I truly believed that speaking out is a true sign of communication. My latest poem is called

"Wind Of Purpose"

A storm...

A violent disturbance in the air

Strong winds, rain, thunder, lightning, or snow.

But not every storm is the same.

No matter the weather,

It'll never be enough to stop your claim.

AIM high and aim for the sky.

And if the dark clouds blur your view,

Remember your why.

Persevere through the pain,

Do what it takes to maintain.

Even in failure,

There's so much to gain.

Nothing in life is freely given,

Yet your stories already written.

Many battles with self-discipline, or simply staying consistent

Still, we rise,

Trying to live efficient.

We're blessed to see the days we're living,

Yet take for granted what the Lord is giving.

A storm is typically temporary,

Yet we rarely see

How necessary

Its winds can be.

A powerful thing

Not just to destroy,

But to shift, to lift,

And to carry what's broken

Right into purpose.

POS Video

My POS Video assignment was fun. I went around campus asking the students how do they feel about homecoming here at SC State. I interviewed ...
